Coaches CPR/First Aid hosted by Scenic Route Sports
We know sports are a great tool to help develop young people, but when the tool is wielded incorrectly, the results are usually a premature exit from sport which quickly morphs into a lifetime of inactivity and sedentary behaviors. Coaches should be the first in line to set the bar for creating great sports programs, but in general, our coaches have been left sometimes unsupported by administrators, boards, and/or parents in the face of increasing professional responsibilities, increasing social challenges, and continuous pressure to perform at higher and higher levels for younger and younger children. In fact, 80% of parents believe “there is a shortage of high-caliber coaches today,” and 81% of coaches agree that more coaches are needed in their community as statistics show that the number of people willing to coach each year declines. The percentage of coaches who have received any kind of training in the last twelve months is also dwindling with CPR/First Aid training being the highest. In 2023, only 39.4% of coaches nationwide (paid or volunteer) had received this training. One of our missions at Scenic Route Sports is to provide local, low-cost, and life-friendly training for our panhandle coaches. This year we are starting with basic CPR/First Aid.
